Shylocks of Fifth Avenue was founded in 1973 by August Chemotti, a 26 year-old hairdresser from Southern California with a dream. August chose Marin County to pursue his dream of creating a salon that catered to the health and beauty of hair. He developed the Shylocks Signature Line of products - Shylocks Oil and Earth Mist - with this dedication in mind.

August was asked to work his magic at the White House wedding of Nicole Boxer in 1994. He styled the hair and makeup for Macy's television commercials for 12 years. Since 1973, many famous musicians, politicians and actors have passed through the doors of Shylocks.

While we never set out to win awards, Shylocks was the first hair salon placed in the Pacific Sun's Hall of Fame for consistently winning "Best of Marin" seven years in a row.

It is with this strong foundation of excellence that Shylocks continues into its third decade - with every stylist stepping up to their chair each and every day with one goal in mind....to bring out the beauty within each of you.
